Serving Kern County since 1949

Who is Bakersfield ARC?

Bakersfield ARC is a non-profit organization that has been providing essential job training, employment, and support services in Kern County for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families since 1949.

Our Mission is simple: To create opportunities that promote independence, enhance well-being, and nurture a sense of belonging. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals of all abilities are able to reach their full potential.

Teaching and educating our Clients to voice their needs within society so they may work together to benefit those around them. We speak favorably on behalf of our Clients and help them see their potential.
Every person has value and something to contribute in life. Our goal is to help bridge the gap with our Clients and the community to see each other as important and worthy.
Facilitating a sense of community so our Clients have a sense of being known and as a community pursue their goals and dreams. We also provide opportunities for local business owners to employ our Clients.

Celebrating 75 years as an organization.

Please watch this video for a brief overview of the history of Bakersfield ARC from our President and CEO, Shawn Kennemer. There is also a notable mention from the previous President of Bakersfield ARC (25 years), Jim Baldwin. Enjoy!
